Trans Mar enters into a co-operation with Byrknes , may 2008
Trans Mar enters into a co-operation with Byrknes in Norway concerning distribution of fish in Europe
Norway is one of the largest fish exporters in Europe and the goods to the European consumers are transported by road over large distances.
Trans Mar enters into a co-operation with Byrknes Auto A/S in Norway in order to enlarge and to make the distribution of fish from Norway to destinations all over Europe more efficient.
Initially, the co-operation includes the markets in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy and Spain. Trans Mar is in charge of the distribution for Byrknes from both Trans Mar’s cold store in DK – 6330 Padborg and from Byrknes‘ cold store in Oslo, Norway. Byrknes collects the fish products at the big fishing ports all over Norway. The distances here are often longer than the further distribution out from Oslo or Padborg to the European markets.
Later on both parties want to extend their co-operation to include other European markets as well. Moreover the co-operation will include return transports to Norway with foodstuff – especially fruit and vegetables.
Today, Byrknes Auto A/S is one of the largest carriers in Norway, and the company has been undergoing a rapid development since its establishment 8 years ago. The company is owned by Stein-Inge Larsen and the company has a large and experienced staff of employees, of whom many of the forwarding agents come from Sties / Nor Cargo.
The primary market area is transport and distribution of foodstuff with fish as the main product area. The company has its head office in Byrknesøy near Bergen and runs a foodstuff terminal in Oslo. This foodstuff terminal serves as the central hub for the further distribution to the Norwegian market as well as to the European market.
